RESPONSIBILITIES OF A BUTLER ROTARIAN
Service
Your responsibilities as a Rotarian are several. However, they can be summarized into three main areas, a commitment to service of your community, a commitment to attendance and a financial commitment. We are committed to serve our community in many of the ways discussed earlier. This will take of your time and effort by getting involved on several committees. We allow you to select the amount of your involvement but do insist that you give us a minimal amount of commitment on some of our events.
Attendance
Our
attendance rules are as follows; We meet Monday evenings at
the YWCA from 6:00 pm to approximately 7:15 pm. During the
months of July and August we meet at the same time but at
the Rotary Shelter at Butler Memorial Park. We attempt to
have speakers who serve to enlighten and inform our members
on topics of general interest. Regular meetings are
held on 46 Mondays per year and you will be asked to attend
at least 50%, or at least 23 of these meetings. There are
27 other Rotary Clubs within a 30 mile radius, and 10 in Butler
County alone that may be used to makeup a missed meeting.
We also have several social events for our members and their
spouse or guest. At times we have special meetings in place
of the regular meetings for events such as the Rotary Pancake
Festival, the Farm/City Dinner, a Golf Outing, a Christmas
Dinner, etc. These events count toward your attendance.
Financial
A
member's financial responsibilities consist of, a one time
admission fee of $30.00, Rotary International dues of $53.00,
District dues of $27.00, Club dues of $36.00, a $12.00 subscription
to The Rotarian magazine and a tax deductible donation
of $80.00 to benefit The Rotary Foundation which is the prime
funding source of the Polio Eradication program. Our meals
at the YWCA cost $8.50 each which will be billed six months
in advance along with your dues. Those members who receive
permission from the Board of Directors may pay $8.00 for their
meals as they attend each meeting. This mainly applies to
members who, because of their age and years of service, qualify.
Throughout the year you will be asked to sell tickets for
our events. Some Rotarians sell their tickets and some elect
to purchase them and give them away. This is your option.
During a recent survey of expenses, the average Butler Rotarian
spends about $599.00 annually, or $1.64 a day, a small price
to pay for such a large reward.
